My AI Use Policy

1. Purpose

I use AI as a practical support tool to help me run and grow my business. This policy explains how and why I use AI, what boundaries I keep, and how I protect client privacy and trust at every step.

2. What I Will Use AI For

I only use AI for low-risk, supportive and non-clinical tasks. These include:

  • Generating ideas, options and rough drafts to help me think more broadly.

  • Summarising and organising business ideas, plans and next actions for my own business.

  • Creating or refining creative resources such as layouts and images.

  • Helping me notice angles or possibilities I might have overlooked.

  • Administrative support such as formatting documents or simplifying information.

  • Developing and clarifying parts of my business plan.

3. What I Will Not Use AI For

AI will never be used for:

  • Storing client data.

  • Processing, analysing or interpreting client stories, histories or emotional content.

  • Thinking for me or replacing my professional judgement.

  • Offloading client work in a way that weakens personalisation or my relational presence.

  • Writing or shaping therapeutic notes, assessments or session reflections.

  • Making decisions about client wellbeing, risk or suitability for counselling.

  • Any activity that could compromise trust, privacy or the human connection at the centre of my work.

4. Data and Privacy

I keep all client information entirely outside AI systems. I do not upload names, personal details, session materials, case notes, assessment content or any identifiable circumstance.
If I need to think through a general theme, I strip away all personal identifiers and speak only in abstractions. I use temporary chats when possible and delete stored files that contain business material rather than client material. Nothing confidential is ever entered, tested or drafted with AI.

5. Human Review

AI can be wrong, incomplete or misleading. I check all AI-generated content myself, especially facts, explanations, numbers and anything connected to my business identity, values or ethics. I stay fully responsible for every decision, service and piece of work I deliver. AI is a tool, not a substitute for my discernment, experience or integrity.

6. Transparency with Clients

  • I tell clients when AI has helped with creating visual materials, worksheets or generic educational content.

  • I make it clear that AI never sees or processes their personal information.

  • If a client asks about my use of AI, I explain this policy and the privacy safeguards plainly.

7. Review and Updates

I will review this policy as my practice evolves and as AI tools change. I will update the policy whenever I adopt new tools or shift how I work, keeping the same commitment to privacy, clarity and human-led practice.

8. Supporting Client AI Literacy & Self-Development Tools

Where appropriate and aligned with client goals, I may offer psychoeducation on how clients can safely and intentionally use AI as a self-development or reflective tool between sessions.

  • Reflective Sandbox: I help clients explore AI as an interactive journaling assistant, for instance, structuring thought records, exploring communication boundaries, or organizing personal goals.

  • Client Privacy Guidance: I actively educate clients on data privacy risks so they do not upload unencrypted identifiable personal information or sensitive third-party details into public consumer AI models.

  • Promoting Emotional Autonomy: I guide clients to maintain critical thinking and self-agency, ensuring AI is used to sharpen their own discernment rather than outsource their judgment or create emotional over-reliance.

  • Non-Clinical Status: AI remains a client-controlled self-help tool. It is not a substitute for therapy, crisis support, or human relational connection, and interaction with AI tools forms no part of formal clinical assessment or session records.
